I do believe that he is right all the way. People may say one thing to sound good... or politically correct... but their actions and their mannerisms indicate exactly the opposite.

So... how does one react to this!? Methinks... not reacting at all would perhaps be the best solution... or perhaps... an 'eye' for an 'eye' is the only solution! Only time shall tell!

"Travelers' Tales" in the Far Eastern Economic Review.

Any guesses why this letter was of historic value?

It apparently led to introduction of TOILETS in trains!!!!!!!!!
The way I see it... the primary reason why people like me (engineers to be more precise) create stuff, is not because we are doing society a service by making things easier for them... instead our primary focus is to maximize our gains in such a clever manner such that others are grateful to us.

The Indian tour of Pakistan has finally begun. And India lost the tour opener to Pakistan 'A'... especially after steamrolling to a whopping 335 in fifty overs.

I didn't catch the match on TV... but a look at the score card suggests that the bowlers let the team down. India conceded 42 extras including 17 no balls and 12 wides.... and that is absolutely unacceptable by any standards.

Anywayz... I am looking forward to catching the first one-dayer this weekend. Hopefully by then the dispute between Ten Sports (the channel that holds the International Broadcasting Rights for any cricket played in Pakistan) and the cable operators is settled.

Ten Sports is supposedly demanding unacceptably high rates from Cable operators at most Indian metros... and the cable operators in Delhi and Mumbai have threatened to black out the channel if they cannot come to a aggreeable solution. Also, the channel has demanded Doordarshan(India's Government owned television network) 25 million US Dollars to share the broadcasting rights. Whereas the channel bought the rights from the Pakistan Cricket Board for just 8 million dollars.

Interestingly enough... the matter went to the High Court after a Public Interest Litigation was lodged. And the Chennai High Court as directed the government to invoke an ordinance forcing Ten Sports to share rights with DoorDarshan if the two channels cannot settle their dispute. If the Government invokes its ordinance then Ten Sports would be forced to share telecast signals with DoorDarshan.

Why I believe the WSIS should wait another decade!!!

I hate to spoil the party... but I guess I am going to be the first person to blow a whistle on the WSIS.
I shall not go to the extent of backing my statements with the facts... and if my statements seem outlandish to the uninitiated... I am sorry... I just can't help it... atleast not just as of now.

I believe the world isn't ready for any of the recommendations from the ITU-INT as regards to WSIS. Primarily because most developing economies of the world simply aren't ready to sustain the expensive infrastructure that goes into building an Information Society. Any recommendation or guideline to do so would only lead to techologically advanced nations controlling crucial interests of the developing world and this in turn would spawn a new age of Imperialism.

The developing world must have the right to choose how they should use information technology to expand their economies to their benefit.... and I fear that WSIS might just get them working on unsustainable ideas... and this would in turn cause them depend on the developed world more than ever before.

The information society is still at its infancy in most nations... it is these pioneers who have to sit back and think how their respective societies would benefit most from ICTs, and to what extent should they invest in their region so as to generate sustainable growth.

Thus I believe that it is only the developed world that is ready for the WSIS... and the so-called talk on bridging the digital-divide is a farce... only a ploy to extend the markets for the technology they possess.

Today I have started a new project here at TIG... and I hope to have the support of everyone here at TIG. South East Asia, or more particularly the Indian Subcontinent has been marred by incidents of violence for some time now. And in my opinion most of it can be avoided if people acted more sensibly. No I am not a fault finding mission here... so I shall not go about taking names, as that would only make things a lot worse!!!

I am of the opinion that... if Europe can establish peace and even go to the extent of creating the European Union within sixty years of fighting a World War, and numerous other wars prior to that, so can India and Pakistan. As unlike the numerous nations within Europe, which are so different, India and Pakistan even share a common heritage.

Our leaders are going to have a another session of peace talks, and I hope things work out. Meanwhile... I wish to set up a lateral dialogue among the youth here at TIG... a lot of our problems are due to misunderstandings and false information that we are taught to believe as the truth. We could use the power of Internet to clarify our differences and lay the foundations for a peaceful tomorrow.

There are other mammals, the big cats for instance, which are quite as much evolved as we are and they do manage to survive on their own for most of their adult lives, causing little or no harm to do their environment in the process. Thus assuring that their kind lives in peace with the rest of nature.

We humans with our highly evolved intelligence, are infact a curse to the planet... and the sad part is that it is our highly evolved intelligence and our sense of being that is actually causing more harm than good.
Is it possible for us turn back time... get things back to the way it actually was... before it gets too late... or would we evolve ourselves and degrade the planet to such an extent that only a very few of us humans would continue to exist on this planet?

Here are ten of my favourite movies... in no particular order!

1. The Matrix (I'll reserve my judgement on the Matrix Reloaded till I see Matrix Revolutions)

2. GolMaal ( This Hrishikesh Mukherjee movie starring Amol Palekar and Utpal Dutt is an absolute laugh

riot!)

3. Khamosh ( Vidhu Vinod Chopra's directorial debut... is the most perfect "whodunnit!?" I've seen till

date)

4. Dil Chahta Hai ( Farhan Akhtar's masterpiece needs no introduction. :) )

5. Hey Ram ( these were the last words of Gandhiji... and also the title of Kamal Hasan's movie describing

the events that led to the Mahatma's brutal murder. And like most Indian movies, this too is a much

sensationalized version of the truth... its still on my list of favorites.)

6. Kaalapani (Originally made in Malayalam and then translated to all Indian languages, this is a

horrifying tale of inmates at Kaalapani... the cellular jail in the Andaman Islands where the British kept

Indian freedom fighters.)

7. Before Sunrise ( Directed by Richard Linklater... this movie stars Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, and is

definitely the most interesting and intelligent romantic movie that I have ever seen!)

8. A Beautiful Mind. (This Ron Howard Movie perhaps has Russell Crowe's best ever performance as an actor in a lead role.)

9. Bharatham ( This Mohan Lal starrer... is my favourite Malayalam movie of all time.)

10. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. (Directed by Kundan Shah this is one of the Hindi best comdies ever made.)
